The care team at a housing scheme for older people in Bridlington is in the running to be named the best in the UK.
The team at Applegarth Court, which is run by affordable housing provider Housing & Care 21, has made the final of the prestigious Great British Care Awards in the Care Team category.
The Applegarth Lane court, which combines individual homes for older people with on-site care, has received a double award nod, as carer Chantelle Darby also made the final in the Home Care Worker category.
Sandra Brown, service manager at Applegarth Court, said: “We are absolutely delighted that we have made the final in two categories of these prestigious awards.
“I am so proud of the team, they do wonderful work and this is fully deserved.”
The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. Last year there were nine regional awards leading to two national finals for both the home care and care home sectors
Chantelle and the team will find out if they have won in the North West region at a ceremony at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Hotel, on November 14.
If they are successful they will then be put forward to the grand final which will be held in early 2016.
Sandra said: “Care at Applegarth is all about helping people maintain their independence in their own home as much as possible and enabling them to live healthy, happy lives into old age.
“Members of the team work extremely closely to provide a very high standard of personalised care which makes a genuine difference to the lives of our residents.”
Applegarth Court consists of 39 individual apartments offered at affordable rent and shared ownership.
Residents have the independence of their own home with care on-site should they need it. Facilities at the court include a salon and restaurant.
Housing & Care 21 owns and runs more than 120 extra care schemes in the UK.
