A BRIDLINGTON man is gearing up for the challenge of his life in a bid to raise hundreds of pounds for a children’s charity.
Martin Hargreaves, 46, will be leaping from a plane and completing a 12,000ft parachute jump as part of Action for Children’s Big Jump, a nationwide fundraiser on Father’s Day.
The cash he raises will help fund a wide variety of work by the charity, including East Riding Young Carers, a group which supports local youngsters with a caring responsibility for a parent or sibling.
And places are still available for others to take part in the jump, which takes place on Sunday 19 June at Bridlington Airfield and others throughout the UK.
“I heard about the opportunity to do the jump on the radio,” said Martin.
“And I wanted to get involved and raise money for a children’s charity.
“I’ve always wanted to do a parachute jump – it’s something a bit different – and I hope to get a lot of support from people around the town.”
Lisa Morton, Action for Children regional fundraiser said: “The Big Jump is an extremely exciting way to support Action for Children and we’re really grateful to Martin for signing up to take part.
“Falling through the air at 120mph is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but if there’s anyone else who has always wanted to get the thrill and could fundraise for us, I’d love to hear from them.”
