Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm is celebrating after winning a national healthy-eating award for its popular baked potatoes.
The Bridlington-based company took first place in the Speedy Suppers category of the Best of Health Awards 2018, for its 4 Baked Jacket Potatoes.
Judges for the awards, run by the Healthy Food Guide magazine, praised the British-grown baked potatoes for their “great flavour and texture”. They said that because the spuds can be heated from frozen in just a few minutes, they are “a good base for a nutritious meal”.
The news comes as the family business was announced as one of the shortlisted entrants in the Great British Food Awards which celebrate the country’s best food businesses.
Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm is the brand name of Farmhouse Potato Bakers, which has been supplying frozen baked potatoes to restaurants and caterers for more than 30 years.
In 2007 the company was the first to supply frozen baked potatoes to supermarkets, and the ever-growing range of nutritious potato products has earned followers throughout the UK ever since.
Commercial director Zoe Bannister said the family business was very proud of its Best of Health Award.
She said: “It’s wonderful to have our signature product recognised by a national magazine dedicated to healthy food and lifestyles.
“Busy people often want meals that are quick and convenient, yet also healthy and nutritious. Our ethos has always been to provide good, wholesome, food made with clean ingredients.
“Now we hope more food-lovers will discover Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm, thanks to the award win.”
Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm uses only British potatoes, most of which are sourced from farmers in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
All products in the range are also gluten free, with one of the products previously having won a national “free from” award.
