A WOMAN who overcame weight gain following a stroke has gone on to set up a slimming group.
Jackie Dixon, 47, of Kilham, joined Driffield Slimming World in January 2011 and became a consultant for the organisation in March 2012; she has since established a Bridlington group to help people in East Yorkshire combat obesity.
Jackie suffered a stroke in 2006, and gained 1st 7lbs while she was recovering, and after giving up smoking.
Prior to her stroke, Jackie had been very active and weighed 8st 7lbs; it was while she was on holiday following her stroke she decided to take control of her weight gain.
Jackie said: “Obesity is becoming such a huge issue across the UK.
“When I first joined Slimming World as a member, I never dreamed that I would end up helping other people to lose weight but now I just can’t wait to get started.
“It’s a privilege for me to be able to pass on the experience, insight and understanding that helped me, so that I can give my members the support they need to get to target.”
In April Jackie won a bronze award from Slimming World for her committment to her Driffield slimming group.
Slimming World, set up by Margaret Miles-Bramwell in 1969, is the largest slimming organisation in the UK, with 6,000 groups held weekly nationwide.
Jackie’s Slimming World group will be held at Bridlington Rugby Club, Queensgate, Bridlington, every Monday at 7.30pm from Monday 3 September.
