CATERING officer Martin Helbrow is gearing up to tackle the London Marathon next month and is on track to raise £3,000 for his chosen charity.

Bridlington Round Table member Martin, of Oxford Street, will take part in the gruelling 26-mile run round the capital on April 17 in aid of the charity Round Table Children’s Wish.

He has already raised £1,700 of his £3,000 target and his funds will be boosted by a non-uniform day to held at Woldgate College Pocklington where Martin works as a catering officer.

Despite never running a marathon before, Martin is confident that he will rise to the challenge in April.

He said: “Up until late last year I’d never run and found it a real challenge.

“Since then I’ve run two races and I have lined up a half marathon at the famous Silverstone circuit in early March.

“The college has been fantastic in their support and I am delighted they have organised a non-uniform day.

“We have also presented the charity in the head’s assemblies and I am hoping to promote their work within the local authority.”

The Round Table Children’s Wish charity raises money to help make the wishes of youngsters suffering life-threatening illnesses come true.

This year there are 44 runners taking part in the London Marathon in aid of Round Table Children’s Wish and the charity hopes to raise £100,000 from the event.
