A much anticipated visit to Driffield by Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex is to be re-scheduled for the autumn.
The royal was due to fly on to the showground at Kelleythorpe to perform the grand opening of a new £400,000 pavilion.
But the visit was cancelled at the eleventh hour - organisers citing faults with a helicopter as the reason for her non appearance.
Several hundred people, including dignitaries and members of the Driffield Agricultural Society, had arrived at showground in the hope of meeting or seeing the Countess when the news broke that she would be unable to attend.
The Countess was replaced by the Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, the Hon Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister, who stepped in to perform the opening of the new Rix pavilion.
Full coverage of the event will appear in next week’s Driffield Times and Post.
