River bursts its banks

THE GYPSEY Race in Burton Fleming burst its banks once again last night leaving standing water on roads.

The water levels continued to rise following snow melt from the weekend and heavy rainfall at the start of the week.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council on Monday had three pumps in place in the village and had reinforced the sandbags along the stream’s course.

The council are reported to have been pumping water from South Street, which was closed due to standing water.

The worst flooding for 65-years hit the village over the festive period and despite flood waters receding gradually over the past few weeks, the river again rose by about four inches over the weekend.
