THIS year’s Spa pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, was a record breaker.
The show, which starred Charlie Dimmock and local entertainer Craig Harper, became the Spa’s highest ever grossing pantomime.
The thirty one performances of the show, from December 14 to January 3, saw 8889 tickets sold - which was 11 per cent up on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, last year’s Spa panto.
It capped a successful festive period for the Spa, who saw more than 800 people attending the first Spa Line New Year event, while 600 people went along to see a production of A Christmas Carol, which was held on December 10.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services, said: “It is fantastic news that Jack and The Beanstalk has broken all previous festive box office records at The Spa Bridlington and shows how the venue is going from strength to strength.
“The Spa hosted a number of high-profile acts in 2011 and with the exciting range of entertainment performing at the venue this year; it is certainly living up to the investment made by this council.
“We hope that everyone who came to see the panto thoroughly enjoyed it and the council is also pleased with the amazing success of The Spa’s first New Year’s Eve celebration, in the Spa Royal Hall.”
