A FAMILY were left alarmed and distressed after a man spat at their feet and threatened to fight them in Bridlington.

The victims, a black family of African origin, said they believe the man’s aggressive behaviour was racially motivated.

Police are investigating the incident as being such.

It happened around 4pm on Tuesday as the man and woman and their three young children waited at a bus stop outside Gala Bingo, in Promenade.

The man approached them and spat at their feet before grinning at them and walking away.

The family moved away from the bus stop to the bus station where the man again approached them, spat and grinned at them.

According to police when asked by the family why he was behaving in such a manner he is alleged to have threatened to fight them if he saw them again.

The suspect is described as a white, in his late 20s to early 30s, of medium build, 6ft tall, clean shaven, blonde, wearing a grey tracksuit top and a white baseball cap.

Anyone who witnessed these events or knows who the man may be should contact police on the new non-emergency number 101 quoting log 373 of November 8.
