Northern Powergrid, the region’s electricity distributor, is running a campaign to raise awareness of an important phone number.
The 105 number is a free, easy to remember way to report and get updates about a power cut.
Some 605 vehicles, more than half of the company’s fleet, now carry 105 number alongside Northern Powergrid’s online services.
These services offer residents the choice of ways to get updates about what’s being done to get their power back on.
A Northern Powergird spokesman said: “In a power cut most people incorrectly turn to the company they buy their electricity from instead of us – the people responsible for the network that delivers electricity to their door.
“We want them to know that if they do have a power cut we’re ready to support them and keep them updated.”
