An artist’s impression of the ‘Splash Zone’ at Bridlington’s new Leisure Centre has been released, much to the excitement of youngsters in the town.
The facility will feature two big slides, a play frame, water jets, toys as well as smaller slides when the £25million development opens in summer 2016.
Leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Stephen Parnaby OBE, said the new East Riding Leisure Centre is a turning point in Bridlington’s regeneration and future prosperity.
“Watching this development take shape is proving very exciting, and there is already no doubt that East Riding Leisure Bridlington will breathe new life into this part of the town.
“Along with plans for a new Premier Inn hotel, the huge success of the Spa Bridlington, the amazing popularity of the refurbished Sewerby Hall, and the visible improvements along Hilderthorpe Road, there is a real feeling that Bridlington is on the way up again, thanks to the continued investment by this council.
“The profile of the town has already been boosted by the Tour de Yorkshire launch, and the recent filming of the Dad’s Army movie.
“A prosperous and successful Bridlington is vital to the economic success of the East Riding, I cannot overstate that enough.”
The council added that construction work on the centre provided 50 people with jobs, who had previously been out of work. In addition to the Splash Zone, the centre will also feature a ‘Tone Zone’ which will provide visitors with views the sea, as well as 70 stations of state-of-the-art exercise equipment.
A ‘Street’ area which runs right through the centre of the building is also eagerly anticipated, and will allow visitors to see 80 per cent of the centre’s facilities, including a new cafe.
