Police investigate arcade assault

Bridlington police are investigating an incident at a town centre amusement arcade in which an employee was allegedly subjected to racial abuse and assaulted.

The event happened between 9.30 and 9.50 on Friday November 18 at an arcade on Esplanade. The incident occurred after an employee at the arcade believed a customer was dishonestly playing a gaming machine and asked him to leave.

The customer, who was with a young woman allegedly became agitated and directed verbal racist abuse towards the employee. Following the exchange the customer left the arcade only to promptly return with the young woman and approach the kiosk where the employee was using the telephone.

The man is then said to have struck the plastic kiosk partition whereupon the employee came out to prevent any damage being caused.

At this point the man is alleged to have assaulted the employee, pulling him to the floor.

Whilst the two men were struggling on the floor another man is said to have approached and joined in the assault on the employee.

The woman is also alleged to have taken part in the assault.

Colleagues and customers intervened and the two men and the woman left the arcade leaving the employee with cuts and bruises.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Humberside Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number 1875635 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
