Officers say when the weather is warm, they receive numerous calls about children going missing, often after youngsters have been playing on the beach.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "If you are coming to Bridlington to spend the day at the seaside, please educate your children in what to do if they do get lost from the adults they come with.

"It's surprising by speaking to your child, however young, of what to do in an emergency as to how much information they retain and not to panic.

"Usually we can reunite parents and children pretty quickly in these situations.

"It is always best to ring the emergency services at the first opportunity to ensure that we can reunite people."
