The electricity distributor’s new digital safety animation has already been seen more than 240,000 times and the company is reaching out to residents again.

Northern Powergrid is asking parents and guardians to spend just a few minutes reminding the young people in their lives about the very real dangers of ignoring electrical safety warnings signs and playing with footballs, flying kites or drones, going fishing or setting off fireworks near overhead power lines or substations.

The video is primarily directed at parents but has been created in a way which means in can be shared with children as part of any discussions about playing safely.

Geoff Earl, Northern Powergrid’s director of safety, health and environment, said: “We’re committed to making sure future generations understand the importance of staying away from our network and know how to spot dangers which could be fatal if they stray too close to our equipment.”
