My heartbreak, by owner of dog that was put down after allegedly being hit by mobility scooter in Bridlington

A Bridlington man whose dog had to be put down after reportedly being hit by a mobility scooter has spoken of his heartbreak.

Anthony Bates was walking his Staffordshire Bull Terriers Bella and Lola on Hilderthorpe Road on Saturday when he said a man on a mobility scooter hit Bella.

They rushed her to a vet for treatment but she had to be put to sleep.

Bella was a rescue dog from the PDSA where Mr Bates's girlfriend used to work as a nurse.

She was found on an estate in Nottingham where she had been used as a breeding dog.

Mr Bates, who is a barber, said: "We had her for about eight years.

"She was a lovely happy dog very good with kids, she loved being stroked and loved our other dog, Lola,

"Lola is 11 and misses Bella as they slept together at night.

"It's heartbreaking as Bella was still a healthy fit dog and didn't deserve to be hit."

Police are investigating the incident and are urging anyone who has information or saw what happened to call them on 101 quoting crime reference 16/98933/20.
