Headteacher of Hilderthorpe Primary School in Bridlington retiring after 40 years of teaching

Kath Carlisle leaves Hilderthorpe Primary School at the end of this week to retire after more than 40 years of teaching.

She taught at the school in the 1990’s and then several other schools in the area before becoming headteacher there seven years ago.

“I’ve loved working with children,” she said. “They’re just exciting to be around and they keep you young.

“To see them grow, develop and move on is also amazing.

“Every day is different. Teaching has to be one of the best jobs.”

She plans to spend her retirement travelling, gardening and spending time with her family, which includes five grandchildren.

“I’ll miss the staff and their friendship and support,” she said. “And I’ll miss the children because they are inspirational.

“There’s nothing nicer than seeing a child achieve something and seeing them feel to proud of themselves, it’s just lovely.

“It’s been a privilege to work here and with the parents and families of the children.

“I’ll miss them very much.”

Assistant Headteacher Jamie Baxter said Mrs Carlisle had developed every aspect of the school during her seven years as head, from phonics to art, music drama and sport.

She had also overseen and ensured a smooth transition when the school moved to a new site.

“She is going to be very missed by staff, pupils and parents,” he added.
