Bridlington lifeboat called as fault leaves boat 22 miles adrift of coast

Lifeboat volunteers from the East Coast helped out a 12-metre fishing vessel crew yesterday.

A hydraulic steering fault had left the boat adrift almost 22 miles east of the coast.

Paged by the UK Coastguard, Bridlington Lifeboat crew went out to help and passed a tow to the stricken boat at around 3.20pm before starting to guide it back to Bridlington harbour.

Although weather conditions were described as "perfect, with calm seas and little wind", because of the tide, the boats were unable to get into the harbour until 9.47pm.
