An Aldgate Vets spokesman said: “We have had to take the difficult decision to temporarily reduce our staffing numbers to the bare essentials only.

“Unfortunately this means it has proved impossible to keep our Bridlington branch open.

“All remaining staff are working from the Driffield branch – this is the branch where we have the most appropriate facilities for looking after our sickest patients.

“As a fully functioning team we have a team of 34, we are now doing our best to run as two separate teams of seven and one delivery driver.

“We ask you to appreciate this is not something we have never expected or planned for. We do however promise to keep up the highest level of care we possibly can for you and your animal.

“We can we currently offer a service to our small animal, farm and equine clients.

“Repeat prescriptions and pet food orders – We ask where possible for clients to collect from the Driffield branch.

Emergency service – We can still examine animals at the surgery, however we have been advised that in order to comply with the most recent Government requirements, the number of clients seen face-to-face should be kept to an absolute minimum. In order for us to safely examine animals we are undertaking a ‘locked door policy’.

“We are currently maintaining a 24-hour emergency service for our farm clients.”
