Pay by phone at car parks

Motorists will no longer need to carry cash to pay for parking at East Riding of Yorkshire Council car parks.

Drivers will be able to use an app on their mobile phones to buy their ticket or permit.

The council has introduced cashless payment methods, to give residents and visitors more choice.

They can either send a text message to the instructions displayed on the ticket machines or download the MiPermit app and register their details and choose how long they want to stay for.

Another option is to visit www.wanttopark.com/eastriding and pay online, which can be done up to seven days before arriving in Bridlington.

Car number plates are entered on the system using the new methods will immediately let parking wardens know who has paid.

Cllr Andy Burton, the council’s portfolio holder for planning, highways and transportation, said: “By embracing this new technology we’re bringing our car parks into the 21st century and making it much easier for people to pay the way they want.

People won’t need to have the right change or cards in their pockets to be able to park, just their mobile phone.
