"Unfortunately, due to the social distancing guidelines announced by the government, we have had to make some changes to our method of working which will result in a 24-hour road closure on both sections.

“Whilst we appreciate the inconvenience this closure may have on road users, the safety of the staff and the public is our top priority. By introducing the full closure, we can maximise segregation of activity and people across the site.”

The signed diversion route will be via the A1039 to A64, Dunslow Road to B1261 to A165 and vice versa.

There will be two-way traffic lights on the tight bend in Muston to ensure HGVs can pass safely. Access to Bowes Lane and Stonepit Lane will be possible via the A165.

Information signs will be erected at either end of the scheme in advance of the works, giving the dates and durations. The work is weather dependant, and if the works are delayed the information signs will be updated to reflect any changes.

County Councillor Roberta Swiers, member for Hertford and Cayton, said: “I welcome the resurfacing work, which will improve the condition of this main truck road on the east coast.

“Those who travel between Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough will appreciate how important this road is. Every effort has been made to ensure these essential works can go ahead, so I urge drivers to be patient whilst the resurfacing is carried out.”
