In the first phase of reopening, the centres will offer gym, casual swimming (where appropriate) and classes only, and these will have to be pre-booked. East Riding Leisure South Holderness will reopen its swimming pool only at this stage.

All centres will initially have reduced opening hours, to allow for cleaning and sanitising at the start and end of each day.

Social distancing measures mean that the capacity of all the centres will be reduced. All leisure centres will operate on a cashless basis only, and there will be no catering facilities initially. There will be limited numbers of vending machines available.

All activities will be separated, to ensure adequate time for cleaning between classes and other activities.

Councillor Shaun Horton, portfolio holder for tourism, culture and leisure, said: “The safe, phased reopening of our Leisure Centres is great news for the health and wellbeing of our residents. During the closure period, we carried out an extensive survey of what our customers wanted to see after reopening, and I am delighted that we have been able to implement many of the ideas raised.

“The safety of our customers and staff is paramount, and I look forward to the welcome reopening of this vital sector.”
