Margaret Mary Mewett was born in Hull on the 1st November, 1926. She had a very happy childhood. In 1947 she joined the Women’s Land Army, this is the year she met her husband to be Frank Warkup on a farm in Gransmoor. After 2 years of courting Frank and Margaret married on the 1st October, 1949 in Hull. After their marriage they moved to the North Yorkshire Moors. Margaret became the Warden of the Youth Hostel at Rosedale Bank Top. She then went on to Wheeldale Lodge at Goathland, while Frank worked on farms and forestry.

Years later they returned to the East Riding. They ran a very successful Hotel in Bridlington, and while Margaret did what she did best, which was looking after people, Frank delivered milk for Northern Dairies.
