NORTHERN RAIL’S CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR SERVICES

Northern Rail services will operate as follows during the Christmas period, from Friday 24 December to Saturday 1 January.

Christmas Eve - all Northern services will begin to wind down from about 7pm and very few trains will run after 9pm. Anyone wishing to travel in the evening should check with National Rail Enquiries that they can complete their journey.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day - there are no train services on these days.

27 December - some early morning trains will not run. Anyone wishing to travel before 8.30am should check with National Rail Enquiries that they can complete their journey.

Network Rail will be carrying out engineering works on the following lines:

Settle – Carlisle: Buses will replace trains between Skipton – Carlisle (27 and 28 December).

Manchester Piccadilly – Sheffield: Buses will replace trains between Sheffield – Chinley (27 and 28 December).

Blackpool North/Wigan North Western – Liverpool Lime Street: Buses will replace trains between Preston – Wigan North Western (27 and 28 December).

Manchester Victoria – Clitheroe: Buses will replace trains between Blackburn – Clitheroe (27, 28 and 29 December).

The RMT union is balloting Northern conductors for strike action. The earliest date that a strike could happen is Monday 27 December. Please check our website or contact our helpline (0845 00 00 125) from Monday 20 December when more information will be available.

Local train services on the following routes will not operate on New Year’s Day:

Newcastle – Carlisle

Newcastle – Morpeth – Chathill

Newcastle – Sunderland – Middlesbrough

Bishop Auckland – Darlington – Middlesbrough – Saltburn

Middlesbrough - Whitby
