NHS health campaigner hit by email cash scam

BRIDLINGTON Hospital campaigner Mick Pilling has reassured friends and volunteers that he is safe and well at home, and not stuck in a Spanish hotel.

His email account was hacked earlier this week, and an urgent message sent to all his contacts titled ‘My Terrible Trip’.

It said: “Our journey has turned sour. We misplaced our wallet and cell phone on our way back to the hotel we lodge in after we went for sight seeing.

“The wallet contained all the valuables we had. Now, our passport is in custody of the hotel management pending when we make payment.”

But Mr Pilling has never been to Madrid and was unaware of the scam until someone called him at his home on the New Pasture Lane estate.

“Someone is having a laugh, but of course it could be very serious,” he said.

The email asked friends to send around £2,500 to ‘sort our hotel bills and get my sorry self back home’.

The issue has been passed on to police, log number 119 of July 18, and Mr Pilling urged everyone who has received the email to ignore it.
