A driver has been rushed to Scarborough Hospital after a truck crashed and caught fire.

Police, along with staff from the fire and ambulance service, were all called to the scene and remain there, following the crash which took place at 6.28am this morning, April 3.

The collision happened on the A165 just before the Grindale turn off in Bridlington, when the lorry came off the road.

A spokesperson for Humberisde police said that a man believed to be in his 40’s sustained injuries in the collision, although the extent of these are not yet known.

Fire crews arrived at the scene to tackle to the blaze at around 6.41am, and Humberside Fire and Rescue say the waggon was “well alight” when they arrived.

The patient managed to free himself from the burning vehicle, before he was taken to hospital.

Fire crews used hose reels, breathing apparatus and oxygen at the scene of the crash.

The fire service said the incident was closed at 7.43am.

Police say the road has now reopened.
