Local club to join world music stars

A LOCAL music club will be joining a host of world stars at next month’s Musicport Festival, held at Bridlington Spa.

The Acoustic Club, held fortnightly on Thursday evenings at The Ship Inn, Sewerby, is now in its third year.

The club is hosted by local musician Pete Bolton, who said: “When I first had the idea of starting the club I very much wanted it to be a good mix of musical genres, performed by musicians of all ages brought together by their love of acoustic music.

“This is exactly what has happened and is, I think, the reason why the club is so successful and popular.”

Playing alongside some of the biggest stars in world music, including Hugh Masekela and Mercedes Peon amongst others, and members of the club are looking forward to what Pete called “an exciting development”.

“The director of the UK’s largest indoor world music festival has been so impressed by the club that he asked me to host an acoustic stage at the festival which will give the opportunity for some of the club’s regular performers to play alongside huge names.”

Over the past three years, the club has welcomed a wide array of talent from solo performers to six piece bands and everything in between including jazz, blues, Americana, folk, contemporary, country, world rock, and pop musicians performing on acoustic instruments with no PA.

Several new acoustic acts have actually been formed at the club and have gone on to play other venues further a field and to record acoustic albums, and the high standard has attracted a very appreciative and enthusiastic following.

Pete added: “We are always pleased to see new acoustic performers at the club whatever their style , and they can be sure of a very warm welcome.”

The next Acoustic Club takes place this evening, October 13, at 8.30pm and then every fortnight thereafter.
