She has given hundreds of Bridlington children a day to remember by organising amazing school trips – and now Lisa Whitton is having her own once-in-a-lifetime experience.
She has been invited to Windsor Castle for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in recognition of her work with young people in Hull and the East Riding.
“It’s absolutely wonderful,” said Lisa, who is East Yorkshire manager for Hull Children’s University, after 18 years working with Humberside Police’s youth engagement team.
She is taking her colleague Rose James to Windsor for the big day, and will be one of 600 people from around the country who have been invited to join in the celebrations.
“It’s a dream come true for me. I didn’t expect it,” Lisa said.
“We will have access to the grounds of Windsor Castle and will see all the wedding guests arriving. It will be amazing to see everybody in their finery.
“To be part of history will be incredible. We will hear all the wedding service while we are in the grounds and we will be the first to see the bride and groom departing once they are married.”
The invitation came just after Lisa had organised a special Royal-themed day for pupils from Hilderthorpe School and residents of Applegarth Court.
“I received a lovely email message from the office of the deputy lord lieutenant of the East Riding,” she added.
“I love my work. It’s so nice to give children the opportunity to discover new skills.
“Some of them come from deprived areas and we allow them to see beyond the end of the street and see what opportunities are out there.”
