From Saturday, July 3, the service will be on weekdays as well, and will also include Hornsea and Withernsea.

Councillor Mike Medini, portfolio holder for cultural and leisure assets, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to work with the RNLI again to fund the provision of this vital service, and I look forward to its further expansion for the summer holidays.”

The RNLI and HM Coastguard recently launched a beach safety campaign as they gear up for a busy summer.

Nick Ayers, the RNLI’s regional water safety lead, said: “We are expecting this summer to be the busiest ever for our lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crews.

“We want people to enjoy the coast but urge everyone to respect the water, think about their own safety and know what to do in an emergency.

“Our main advice is to visit a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags.”
