Letter: Housing market is a struggle for young couples

Young people are struggling to get a foot on the ladder of the housing market.
Young people are struggling to get a foot on the ladder of the housing market.

Headlines of ‘Boom Town’ on front page of the Free Press might be good news for estate agents and for folk who want to sell their properties.

However, it is not good news for young local Brid couples who are trying to get onto the first rung of the housing ladder.

With pay rises being non-existent over the past years, a reported 9% increase of house prices in Brid in just one year will make it even harder for young Brid couples to be able to buy their first homes.

My personal fears of headlines of Boom Town on the front page of Free Press is that buyers from outside of Brid will then become landlords.

With such a shortage of corporation houses in Brid it then means young couples will have to pay exorbitant amounts of rent to private landlords..
