Let's hope our loyal NHS staff receive back pay

It was good to read in the letters page of this week’s Free Press Chris West’s exceptional, excellent patient experience they received recently from NHS England.

I read the Free Press every week, and in Letters to the Editor page I have read hundreds of letters just like Chris West’s having nothing but praise for our dedicated NHS staff. Folks' criticism is only directed at the government because of austerity that then means cuts and shortage of funding to the local Clinical Commissioning Group that then the York Trust has to swallow.

In all the years I have read Free Press I have never known folk to criticise our devoted loyal NHS staff. Over these past eight years our devoted loyal NHS staff have been subjected to these stern, severe austerity measures that have been inflicted on them by this skinflint of a government, although our Prime Minister Theresa May announced in her conference speech austerity is now a thing of the past.

So let’s hope and now see if our loyal devoted NHS staff are given back pay that is owing them resulting from pay rises that they never received because of austerity being imposed on them these past eight years. However, I won’t be holding my breath.
