Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to a large straw stack fire in Flamborough
Crews were called out to the incident at 02.42am yesterday morning (26 September) on the B1229 Flamborough Road and Bempton Lane.
The large fire involved a straw stack approximately 20m high by 30m length, alongside which was an industrial sized cylinder of nitroflow liquid fertiliser.
Crews fought the stack fire while cooling the cylinder to keep it at a safe temperature. Once the fire was brought under control crews created a heat shield around the cylinder utilising insulated sandwhich panels provided by the farmer.
Six breathing apparatus, ground monitor, one main line and a Thermal Image Camera were in use.
The stack was then left to burn out naturally under supervision of farm owner.
Road closures were temporarily in place though it is now open in both directions.
