Katie Carr is planning a very different way of celebrating New Year’s Eve this year.
In the middle of a busy pub packed with revellers, she will have hair head shaved to raise money for Cancer Research.
Katie said: “I have started raising the money now so I can’t back out.
“I live and work at the Harbour Tavern and we had a couple of customers affected by it.
“We had some who have beaten it and we had another who has lost his battle, and we all know somebody affected by Cancer.
“My mum did it in Huddersfield two years ago and since she did, I have been thinking about it.
“I love my hair and I am dreading it but I keep telling myself it will be new year, new start. I’m not nervous about having it done, but how I will feel afterwards.
“Everybody is being supportive although some friends are saying ‘do you know what you are doing?’
Katie said it could take three or four years to get hair back to its current length.
“I have picked a key date when hopefully people will be feeling generous after a few drinks. I’m aiming for £1,000. That would be great and it would be fantastic if we could get more than that.”
She has already collected £230 through her online page, and is looking at how she can donate her hair to charity once it has been chopped off.
