NORTH Wolds Lions Club has welcomed new president John Elsey of Rudston.
It is the second time that Mr Elsey has served as president and he took the chain of office from outgoing president Michael Sykes at a recent changeover dinner at Sewerby Grange.
He said that he was very proud to be serving as president again and wants to continue the good work of the club.
“Our hopes are always the same, that we serve and help local communities,” he said.
“We cover 23 villages stretching out to Wold Newton so one or two Lions will look after each village.
“We go around and wherever people need help, we always try and give it them.
“The North Wolds Lions are also involved in the very successful national operations and we will continue that.
“It is a fabulous organisation and is an honour to be president - Mike did an absolutely fabulous job so it is all about continuation.”
Among the popular events organised by the North Wolds Lions are the annual Christmas sleigh visits to local villages and the Santa’s Grotto at Eastfield Garden Centre.
Both of these events are expected to be going ahead as planned this year after the sleigh run had to be cancelled in 2010 due to the severe winter weather.
