Bridlington Hospital’s Age Related Macular Degeneration Ophthalmology service was among the winners at a staff awards ceremony.
The team was recognised for Enhancing Systems and Services when more than 250 staff from York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust were joined by volunteers and fundraisers at Scarborough Spa for the 2015 Celebration of Achievement Awards.
The Age Related Macular Degeneration Ophthalmology Service, which relocated to Bridlington Hospital in January, scooped the award for Enhancing Systems and Services.
And they weren’t the only winners from the hospital.
Grounds and Garden’s Supervisor Shaun Fletcher took home the Unsung Hero award for his hard work, drive and determination. He also won the Living our Values Award.
There are more than 600 eyes registered with the Bridlington AMD clinic and the service sees between four and seven new people every week.
Relocating into what was the former Minor Injuries Unit at the hospital, the space was upgraded to provide a dedicated department for the service with specialised clean rooms in which to deliver the treatment.
