The first section of the makeover of the underpass in Bridlington has been completed.

Volunteeers from the Brightening Up Bridlington group spent Saturday morning creating a mural on one wall, having been at the subway between Trinity Road and St Wilfred Road the week before, clearing up graffiti and preparing the area for its new look.

The design features a selection of seaside images, such as colourful boats, birds and seaside crabs.

On social media, the group said: “Thank you for the many, many lovely comments from all the locals we saw. Thanks also to B&Q for donating the background paints.

“Thanks for the generous gifts of biscuits, tea and food from passers-by – it was a great day for community spirit.”

The volunteers are now planning what to put on the opposite wall later this year.

Suggestions from the public so far include dinosaurs, poppies, a railway scene, Bridlington Old Town and local heroes.

More ideas are welcome – but they must be simple enough to be turned into a mural.
