AN EVENING of musical competition saw a student claim a musician of the year award for a performance.
Students from Headlands School, in Sewerby Road, Bridlington, competed against each other in the annual Young Musician of the Year stand-off held at the school.
Sixth form students Callum Jeckells and Samatha Lloyd organised the event, which saw 16 acts perform to an audience of parents and friends, as part of their B-Tec A level music course.
Pianist James Frankish took the junior prize, whilst singer songwriter Kieran Sennett won the senior category.
Beth Edeson, from Year 10, was crowned Young Musician of the Year, with her rendition of the challenging piece, Trouble.
Music Teacher Bernie Halkyard said: “Both the Students have worked extremely hard in all aspects of the event. Not only did they organise everything, they compèred the evening too. Audience feedback on the evening was very complimentary, resulting in a resounding success for all.”
The evening was sponsored by Pot Doodles in Thornton-Le-Dale.
