A TELEGRAM from the Queen is becoming a regular occurrence for Blanche Mannix, who received her sixth to mark her 106th birthday at the end of last month.
Blanche, originally from Moose Jaw, Canada, celebrated her 106th birthday with friends on Saturday August 20.
Blanche was born shortly after the Wright Brothers took to the skies in the first aeroplane and has lived through two World Wars.
She credits her longevity to her vegetarianism and healthy, non-smoking lifestyle and is still very independent, regularly going out on trips with the Friends of the Elderly and with her family.
Sylvia Burnett, the manager of Mallard Court residential home where Blanche has lived for the last year, said that the 106-year-old’s sprightly ways are “an inspiration” and that “she looks younger now than when moved to the home”.
Sylvia said: “I think she is probably a bit tired of seeing the same photograph of the Queen on her telegrams!
“She celebrated her 104th and 105th birthday with a big party here at Mallard Court, but this year she took things easy and had three friends over for a smaller celebration, and went out with her family afterwards.”
