Get ready for Brid’s bonfire nights

FIREWORKS will be lighting up the skies over Bridlington this weekend thanks to several events planned.

Bridlington Lions are gearing up for their bonfire and fireworks display at Limekiln Lane this Saturday and are promising a spectacular show.

The show has been moved to the first Saturday in November to make it easier for people to attend the event.

With a professional display of over £4,000 worth of fireworks, food and refreshments, the Lions hope to make it one to remember for all the family.

“We are sticking to the same formula that has proved such a success over the years,” said Peter Jay of the Lions Club.

“We don’t do it as a fund-raiser for us, it’s quite the opposite really.

“It’s more of a community project and we just hope that everyone turns out and enjoys themselves.

“It’s certainly a lot safer than people setting fire to things in their own back garden!”

This year there will be tea and coffee, hot dogs, burgers and a stall selling brandy snap and candy floss type food.

Gates open at 6pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7pm with the fireworks display beginning at 7.30pm.

Admission costs £1 per person with children under five years of age getting in free. Parking is free.

The public have been invited to take firewood to Limekiln Lane between 8am and 11am on November 3.

Please note that the Lions are unable to collect any bonfire material from peoples homes.

l The Ship Inn, on Cliff Road, Sewerby will also host their famous bonfire and firework extravaganza this Saturday.

There will be a funfair, penny for the guy competition and a pumpkin carving competition from noon with the bonfire starting at 6pm.

A collection will be held on the night for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

l The fun continues on Monday, November 5 when Bridlington Rugby Club will host their bonfire night and firework extravaganza.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, at Dukes Park, Queensgate with gates opening at 6pm.

The bar will be open and there will be hot food, drinks and a bbq available as well as side stalls and tombola.

There is under cover seating for 250 people and the clubhouse will be open to all.
