Former pub landlady dies

A FORMER Bridlington pub landlady has died at the age of 93.

Joyce Randerson, who was licensee of the Crown Hotel in Bridlington between the 1950s and 70s, died recently following a long illness.

She was born in 1914 and lived most of her childhood in Bridlington's Old Town before marrying local boxer "Darkie" Ellis. They had two daughters but Darkie died aged 32.

Joyce later married George Randerson, a local licensee and later a town councillor, who died in 1966, passing on the licence to her until her retirement in the 1970s.

She then moved to Pudsey, near Leeds, to be near her daughter before a long illness forced her into a nursing home.
