Firefighters in our region are set to strike on Thursday and on 21 June in a dispute over pensions the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced.

The strike will take place from 9am on Thursday until 9am on Friday and from 10am- 5pm on 21 June.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer, Dene Sanders, said: “The Service continues to be tested by this national dispute but is continually assessing and reviewing its contingency plans so that the best possible service can be delivered to the community at times of strike action.

“We will continue to operate an adequate service during strike action and to achieve this we need to draw on some of our current staff as well as reservists to provide that service. Their efforts are very much appreciated.

“As there will be fewer fire engines available to attend incidents during periods of industrial action it is even more important that people take extra care to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. I would urge everyone to ensure their homes have smoke detectors and to test them each week.

“Checking all appliances are turned off and closing all internal doors is a quick and simple task to help make sure a fire doesn’t start when you go to bed. I would also urge drivers to take extra care on the roads and businesses to take extra safety precautions,”
