Ten bags of rubbish and three road cones were collected from the Gypsey Race during the Brightening Up Bridlington’s monthly event on Saturday.

The team welcomed five new volunteers and cleaned up the areas around Palace car park, Springfield Avenue, Hilderthorpe Road, the new Beck Hill bridge, and parts of the town centre.

The next BUB event will be on August 18 and will see the team concentrating on the underpass between Trinity Road and St Chad’s Road. They will be removing graffiti and creating a simple mural to brighten up the area.

Organiser Martyn Coltman said: “The September litter pick will concentrate on Old Town, in order to help prepare the area for the visitors expected for the Heritage Open Days and Open Studios in early autumn.

“Please join us if you would like to join Brightening Up Bridlington. We meet on the third Saturday of every month, except December, and usually start from The Spa main entrance at 9am.”

The team would like to hear from anyone who knows of other areas that would benefit from a litter pick.
