Three men plead guilty over night poaching offences near Sproatley

Three men have appeared at Hull Magistrates Court for offences under Section 1 of the Night Poaching Act 1828 following an incident on Thursday, February 18.

Jason Thacker, 29, of Forber Avenue, Hull, Louis Whiteley, 24, of Marvel Street, Hull, and Jordon Rispin, 24, of Portobello Street, Hull, appeared before the court and entered a guilty plea.

The court heard how the three men trespassed on farmland between Humbelton and Sproatley for the purpose of gaming. The men were also found to be in possession of equipment commonly used for poaching purposes.

All three man were each ordered to pay a £360 fine as well as £85 in costs during the hearing on Friday, July 23.

Rural Task Force Police Constable Kevin Jones said: “I hope this conviction sends out another strong message to those who are involved in wildlife crime.

“I am grateful to the local members of Farmwatch for their assistance and partnership throughout this investigation which has resulted in another conviction under Poaching legislation.

“We will not tolerate this illegal activity and will continue to pro-actively work alongside our partners and farm watch community tackling these crimes.

“If you witness persons suspected trespassing on farmland in suspicious circumstances or suspected involved in poaching, contact the police on 999 for crimes in action.”
