Throughout the course of the four-week intensification period the team will be looking to target criminals involved in a whole host of crimes including organised crime, drug-related offences, violent crime, robbery, burglary and anti-social behaviour.

The team, working in partnership with the local authorities, will also be keeping residents up to date with the warrants, subsequent arrests and the seizures of illegal items such as drugs, weapons and cash.

Officers will be identifying and protecting vulnerable people in our communities, as organised crime groups continue to target young people through county lines and drug offences.

Leading the intensification period is Superintendent Paul Butler.

He said: “Due to the lockdown, we did see a reduction in offences taking place and we want to ensure we do everything we can to keep crime down as restrictions are beginning to be eased and lifted with a clear message to offenders that their criminality will not be tolerated.

“The community impact these types of crimes have on local residents is why we will continue to take action and proactively remove offenders from our streets and to disrupt these criminal networks.

“Throughout the intensification period, our local communities can expect to see an increased presence from our uniformed and plain clothed officers, particularly in hotspot areas where crime rates and anti-social behaviour incidents are higher.

“Our local Neighbourhood Policing Teams will also be out and about engaging with local residents and listening to concerns, as well as updating you on the work we are doing to make your communities safer.

“The work we do continues to put us on the front foot as we take control of our streets by making the lives of criminals and predators difficult and uncomfortable to ensure our residences feel safe and protected.

“We would always encourage you to report any offences to us so we can build the bigger picture and take action.
