Injured at the court

A BRIDLINGTON man never made it into court to face charges over motoring offences after becoming involved in an incident with police in the court corridor.

Mark Anthony Mattocks, 38, of Trinity Road, attended to answer charges relating to driving a car while disqualified and without insurance on February 29 this year.

At a hearing at Bridlington Magistrates Court last Wednesday, Mr Mattocks’ solicitor Caroline Kirk said: “The defendant was approached and searched by police on the court corridor.

“He was involved in an incident with the police officers on the staircase off the court corridor, and is unable to appear after being taken to the hospital as a precaution.”

It is believed Mr Mattocks fell down stairs at the court.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police confirmed that a man “had been bailed after police officers attended the court to carry out a Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act search”.

They also confirmed a man had been taken to hospital due to “concerns about his health”.

His case was adjourned to March 21, and Mr Mattocks’ bail was continued.
