A BEMPTON couple have made their first appearance at Hull Crown Court faced with a string of fraud charges.

Barry Shaw, 50, and Rachael Shaw, 48, both of High Street, appeared at court on Monday.

Mrs Shaw had pleaded not guilty to 12 charges of fraud by abuse of position. The charges related to her role as office manager at Medusa Creations Masonary, where it is alleged she abused her position to gain £15,797.18 between November 23, 2007 and September 22, 2009.

Mr Shaw had also pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing to one charge of fraud by false representation, relating to a payment of £15,000 to him to buy shares in Medusa Creations Masonary between May 30 and October 31, 2008.

Mr Shaw also faces a separate charge of possessing a shotgun without a certificate at Carnaby Industrial Estate.

The case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing to be held on April 5.

A date for a trial had been set for August 13.

Judge John Dowse granted both Mr and Mrs Shaw unconditional bail.
