Burglary at store on Christmas Day

Santa may have been coming down plenty of Flamborough chimneys in the early hours of Christmas, but the village’s Co-Op had a slightly more sinister visiter at that time - a burglar.

Police are investigating after a far from jolly intruder broke into the store between 4am and 5am on the big day.

And while Father Christmas tucks into mince pies at the homes he visits, the Christmas crook helped himself to some cigarettes instead.

He then looted the store of a small safe, before fleeing the scene after the bumbling burger triggered the store alarm.

Now Humberside Police are appealing for the public’s help in snaring the raider, with officers carrying out enquiries locally.

A force spokesperson said: “Humberside Police are currently investigating a commercial burglary at the Co-Op store on Dog and Duck Square.

“An unknown offender(s) approach the building before forcing entry building which set off the stores alarm. Once inside they stole a large quantity of cigarettes and small safe from within. They then left the area.

“Police are appealing to anyone with information about the burglary to call 101 quoting crime reference number 2088401 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
