Cowton rounds off season with great results at Cadwell Park
James Cowton rounded off 2014 at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire when the Auto 66 Club helds its final two-day race meeting of the year.
The Count of Cadwell Bonanza and Sidecar Bash attracted a large entry list of riders, and Cowton, from Kilham, was looking to gain final points for the championships standings and add some more silverware for the cabinet.
He was riding three bikes over the weekend - a Kawasaki FCR6 650, a Honda CBR 600 and a Honda CBR 1000.
Conditions meant a damp track for practice, but with the slight breeze and a sunny day, the surface dried out relatively quickly.
Both days produced some fast close racing, and some great results for Cowton and his team.
Over the two days, he achieved a first, two seconds and a third on the Honda CBR 600.
On the FCR6 650, Cowton secured a first and second, and on the Honda CBR 1000 he managed three thirds and a second place.
In the overall Northern Clubmans Championship standings, Cowton finished first in the super lightweights, first in the Junior 600 and third in the Senior 1000
In the Road and Track Championship, he took first in the Superlights, first in the Junior 600 and fifth in the Senior 1000.
Cowton, the current Free Press Sports Person of the Year, won the Lee Vernon Trophy by a huge margin, with 104 points, compared to the second place rider James Neesom who amassed 57 points.
Cowton said he’d like to thank everybody who has helped out throughout the season, especially all his sponsors, for making it a successful one for him and the team.
