A CHANCE meeting at a hospital led to a long and happy marriage for Ken and May Redshaw who celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
The couple met when May, who had moved to the town from Northumberland in 1946, was working at the old Lloyd Hospital in Bridlington and Ken was a gas fitter who was sent on a job at the building.
Romance blossomed and Ken and May were married at the Priory Church on June 16 1951.
The couple then spent 32-years in the pub trade in Bridlington, first taking on The George by the harbour before moving on to The Telegraph on Quay Road in 1964 which they ran together for 26-years up until their retirement.
They have two daughters, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild and now live in St Alban Road.
May, 83, said that the secret to her long and happy marriage to Ken, now 85, was that they ‘just got on with it’.
A party attended by their family was held at the Expanse Hotel on Sunday to celebrate their anniversary.
