The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships (EOBC) is returning to the East Riding from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 February 2019 for its 26th anniversary year.

Founded by the late Paul Roggeman, the event attracts over 1,000 anglers from across Europe each year in the East Riding looking to net a share of the £35,000 prize fund.

The championships, with fishing from the north end of Bridlington’s North Marine Promenade to the Pilot Jetty at Spurn Point, takes place in association with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s EY Events team.

EY Events support over 40 events each year that help to attract thousands of visitors and tourists to the area.

This year, EY Events will be teaming up with Sea Angling Adventures, providing competitors with fantastic coverage in the build-up and during the 2019 Championships.

Tickets for the main competition are now available to purchase online until Thursday 7 February.

Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships is one of the most eagerly-anticipated competitions on the angling calendar and sees competitors’ locally, nationally and internationally taking part, including from Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.

“The event also helps promote the East Riding as a tourist destination.”
