A COUPLE who met coincedentally more than sixty years ago are celebrating their Diamond Wedding anniversary.

Thomas and Lily Hall, of Malthouse Lane, Bridlington, first met “sixty-two and three quarter years ago” at Joyland Amusements, on Promenade in Bridlington.

Their very first meeting was “a coincedence” according to Thomas, who first spoke to Lily to ask if she knew his brother, but the pair have been together ever since.

They have two sons, Phillip and Lesley, and five grandchildren, Lucy, Amy, Sally, Kirsty and Christopher.

Married on March 31, 1951, at St Andrews Church in Boynton, close to the farm on which Thomas worked. They lived near Boynton until moving to Bridlington, after their sons flew the nest.

Thomas, 82 and Lily, 80, will be joined by friends and family tomorrow at a celebration at the Ransdale Hotel.

Lily said the secret to their long marriage was “happiness, you would not stay together if you weren’t happy”.

Thomas believes that his and Lily’s happy marriage is down to trust.

He said: “If you cannot trust one another when you are courting, then do not think about getting married. Trust and being honest with one another are the most important things.”
